How PawCircuit makes money, our Amazon Associates relationship, and our commitment to honest reviews.
How PawCircuit makes money, our Amazon Associates relationship, and our commitment to honest reviews.
The Short Version
PawCircuit participates in the Amazon Associates Program. When you click an Amazon link on our Site and make a qualifying purchase within 24 hours, we earn a small commission (typically 1-4% of the purchase price). This comes out of Amazon's margin โ you pay the same price whether or not you use our link.
We also display advertising through Google AdSense and (when we qualify) Mediavine. These advertisers pay us based on ad impressions and clicks.
We do not accept sponsored posts, paid placements, or "pay-to-rank" arrangements. Our editorial recommendations are independent of our affiliate relationships.
How Affiliate Links Work
When you click an Amazon affiliate link on PawCircuit, the following happens:
- You are redirected to Amazon.com with our affiliate tag appended to the URL (e.g.,
?tag=wattsage47-20). - Amazon sets a 24-hour cookie in your browser that identifies us as the referring affiliate.
- If you make any qualifying purchase on Amazon within 24 hours, we earn a commission on that purchase โ even if it's not the product you originally clicked.
- If you add items to your cart and check out within 90 days, we still earn a commission on those items.
Importantly, the price you pay is identical whether or not you use our link. Amazon's affiliate program pays affiliates out of its own marketing budget โ it does not mark up prices for referred customers.
FTC Disclosure
In accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines on the use of endorsements and testimonials in advertising, we disclose the following:
Affiliate Disclosure: PawCircuit is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
This means that when you click on certain links on our Site and make a purchase on Amazon, we may receive a commission. This commission comes at no additional cost to you.
We include this disclosure (or a shortened version) at the top of every page that contains affiliate links, in our Site footer, and on this dedicated disclosure page.
Our Editorial Independence
Our editorial policy is simple: we recommend products we would buy ourselves, regardless of commission rate. Some of the products we recommend have low or no commission; we recommend them because they're the best option for our readers.
Concretely, this means:
- No paid placements. Brands cannot pay to be included in our guides or to improve their ranking.
- No "pay-to-rank." We do not adjust rankings based on commission rate. The #1 product in a guide may have a lower commission than the #5 product.
- Pros and cons for every product. No product gets a perfect review. We document limitations honestly.
- Public editorial policy. See our editorial policy for the full methodology.
Other Advertising
In addition to Amazon Associates, we display advertising through:
- Google AdSense: Display ads served by Google. Google may use cookies to serve relevant ads based on your browsing history.
- Mediavine (when applicable): Display ads served by Mediavine, our preferred ad partner once we reach their traffic thresholds.
We do not accept direct display ad sales, sponsored posts, native advertising, or any form of paid editorial content. All advertising on PawCircuit is clearly labeled as advertising.
Revenue Breakdown
For full transparency, here's how we expect revenue to break down as the Site grows:
- Amazon Associates: ~60% of revenue (commission on products we recommend)
- Display advertising (AdSense โ Mediavine): ~40% of revenue
We do not have any other revenue sources. No subscriptions, no paid newsletters, no paid courses, no direct sponsorships.
